Dr. Andrew Russell Participates on Harvard Panel
SUNY Poly Provost Dr. Andrew Russell served as a panelist at a conference on the Political Economy of Artificial Intelligence, which took place on May 8 at Harvard’s Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation.
Dr. Russell and peers discussed the current status of state and federal government promotion of AI, historical comparisons including the growth of the Silicon Valley and the development of the Internet, as well as comparisons to ongoing government investments in semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries. They also reflected on actions and investments of the Biden Administration, such as the Blueprint for the AI Bill of Rights, as well as the need to ensure that AI is developed in ways that serve the public interest.
Serving on the panel with Dr. Russell was Dr. Marc Aidinoff, former chief of staff of Biden’s Office of Science and Technology Policy from 2021-2023, and Dr. Susannah Glickman, a historian at Stony Brook.
