Three OPFC Utica students received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence: Kumari Regmi, who just completed her Master’s in Family Nurse Practitioner at SUNY Poly; Mya Kyaw, who graduated from Mohawk Valley Community College with an Associate degree in biology in May; and Ifrah Hassan who completed her associate degree in liberal arts and math and science at Onondaga Community College in December and is now pursuing her bachelor’s at SUNY Binghamton. Less than 1 in every 2,400 students receives this highest SUNY system award. All honorees combined academic excellence with other accomplishments, including leadership, campus involvement, community service, and more.
OPFC Utica student Marquis Palmer spoke at commencement as the recipient of the top 2018 graduate award at Hamilton, the James Soper Merrill Prize, which is given to the student "who, in character and influence, has typified the highest ideals of the College." Marquis also received a Fulbright Scholarship to do research in Czechoslovakia and a Watkins Fellowship to do research around the world. OPFC Utica student grad Moo Taw was the student commencement speaker at Herkimer Community College. She will be attending the university of Albany in the Fall.
