Project GreenSphere: Building a Sustainable Future at SUNY Poly
Project GreenSphere, an interdisciplinary initiative involving all four colleges at SUNY Poly, aims to construct a state-of-the-art greenhouse near Donovan Hall. Spearheaded by Professors Dr. Pallavi Gupta-Bouder and Dr. Kristina Boylan, this innovative project aligns with the pillars of SUNY Poly's strategic plan, emphasizing student success, campus infrastructure, brand and partnerships, and academic excellence.
The greenhouse would serve as a hub for ecological education, research, and outreach. It would promote student success by offering classes on sustainable agriculture, supporting mental health through horticulture, and fostering lifelong connections to campus. By incorporating ecologically responsible planning and raising awareness of sustainable practices, the project seeks to enhance campus infrastructure. Furthermore, it would strengthen brand and partnerships through collaborations with local farmers, regional schools, and other SUNY campuses. Lastly, the project aims to advance academic excellence by creating hands-on learning opportunities and supporting groundbreaking research for faculty and students.
Project GreenSphere embodies the ideals of food freedom, community connections, and ecological harmony. Currently in its early stages, the initiative seeks support to bring this vision to life. Members of the SUNY Poly faculty and students in the Pre-Health Club recently held a yarn sale to collect proceeds for this impactful project (see photo above).
More details about this project will be shared in the months ahead!
