SUNY Poly Engineering and Engineering Technology Programs Receive Esteemed Accreditation
Full accreditation latest indication of SUNY Poly’s high-quality educational offerings
Utica, NY – Further recognizing SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s (SUNY Poly) role in offering top-notch educational opportunities, the institution announced that all of its engineering technology programs have earned accreditation by ABET – the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc., which ensures standards for each program it reviews nationwide.
ABET reviews of the Civil Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering programs has resulted in both programs being accredited. The Mechanical Engineering and Nanoscale Engineering programs are currently under ABET review.
After extensive review of the institution’s engineering technology programs, ABET has accredited the Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technology programs. In addition, the engineering programs at SUNY Poly continue their growth by obtaining ABET accreditation as quickly as possible.
“This successful accreditation is a clear indicator of the dedication of our engineering and engineering technology faculty and the high quality offerings of our programs at SUNY Poly,” said Dr. Bahgat Sammakia, Interim President of SUNY Poly. “Recognition such as this provides assurance of the strong academic and professional qualifications and their ability to deliver the very best in engineering degree programs to our students.”

The ability of our faculty to deliver an exceptional experiential learning curriculum provides an advantage to our graduates as they join the professional workforce.”
The College of Engineering at SUNY Poly provides students with a combination of foundational material and hands-on practical experiences that allows them to succeed in the workplace or in ongoing academic pursuits. The students in each program are required to take courses, and they can become involved with interdisciplinary projects, as well as take part in internships, extracurricular activities, independent studies, and research to build a degree which will allow them to succeed.
"ABET accreditation means that it is easier for our students to apply for licensure as professional engineers, be accepted into graduate programs, and find employment,” said Dr. Andrew Wolfe, Interim Dean of the SUNY Poly College of Engineering. "ABET accreditation provides an assurance to our students, potential employers, and to the community that the engineering and engineering technology programs at SUNY Poly are providing the tools needed for engineering in the 21st century.”
Founded in 1932 as the Engineers’ Council for Professional Development, ABET is an engineering professional body dedicated to the education, accreditation, regulation and professional development of engineering professionals and students in the United States. The non-governmental organization accredits college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology at the associate, bachelor, and master degree levels. Its accreditation serves as a benchmark for students and employers who can be confident a program meets the quality standards that produce graduates who are ready to enter the global workforce.
