ShadiShahedipourSandvik.jpgDecember 2, 2015—Warrendale, PA (USA): F. (Shadi) Shahedipour-Sandvik, professor of Nanoengineering at SUNY Polytechnic Institute and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Electronic Materials (JEM), was a featured speaker at the Springer Storytellers event on December 1 in Boston, Massachusetts. Shahedipour-Sandvik talked about how being a mother influenced her notion of what it meant to be a researcher and educator, and how she balances these major roles in her life.

After serving as JEM associate editor for two years, Shahedipour-Sandvik transitioned to editor-in-chief in 2014. In this role, she directs editorial activities and the peer-review process to ensure the thorough vetting of electronic materials research reports by respected colleagues before publication. The journal, published jointly by The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), reports monthly on the science and technology of electronic materials while examining new applications for semiconductors, magnetic alloys, dielectrics, nanoscale materials, and photonic materials.

Shahedipour-Sandvik is a professor of nanoengineering and head of the NanoEnginering Constellation at SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly). She directs a research group in the Wide Band Gap Optronix Lab that focuses on the development of wide band gap III-Nitride materials and devices.
