We all remember how excited we were to start college. Today, hundreds of students are experiencing that locally.

About 350 students moved into SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Marcy on Friday. Students and their families arrived with their cars full, and school staff was on hand to help them unload their belongings and help make their transition to college a little easier.

Parents of students who are freshmen at the school say they’re feeling a mix of emotions.

“It’s my baby,” said Denise Daniels, a mom from Cedarhurst, New York. “My older one's already starting her fourth year, so I know she’s good. But now I’m hoping everything goes okay with him. It’s exciting though.”

“He’s my first son to go away to college, he's my oldest,” said Joann Saenz, a mom from Middletown, New York. “So it's bittersweet, I’m nervous 1:10

“Mixed emotions,” said Mo Reynes, a dad from Poughkeepsie, New York. “It's a changed atmosphere at home, not having him around, being here, living on his own, being an adult.”

“We know it's a big day for parents,” said Jennifer Adams, assistant vice president of Student Affairs at SUNY Poly. “When they leave we give them a little goodie bag to send them on their way with tissues and some treats and some positive notes from us that they’ve done all the right things and that now that their students are here, they are in good hands.”

There were several different activities planned for the students and their families.
