About the Partnership
The Office of Research is partnering with Hanover Research to increase the quality, volume, and success rates of our grant applications across campus. Through this collaboration, Hanover professionals will offer customized proposal review, revision, and production support to SUNY Poly’s principal investigators and their teams while also helping to align strategic priorities to funding trends and opportunities at all levels.
Hanover has generated more than $750 million in total grant funding for members since 2012. These grants have been secured across all types of funders, including federal, state, and foundation/corporate sources.
Please note, there is a contractual limit on how many projects can be supported. If you are interested in accessing the services of Hanover, please complete the Request for Hanover Support form well in advance of your proposal deadline or grant writing needs.

Grant seeking Capacity Development. Developing organizational capacity to pursue and win grant funding, through training, strategic assessment, and benchmarking. Project types include: onsite Grantsmanship Workshops; Grantsmanship Webinars; Grant seeking Strategy Development; and Grant seeking Capacity Research. |
Funding Research. Identifying and evaluating grant opportunities aligned to member projects, while enabling longer-term planning through funded project research and forecasting. Project types include Prospecting; Funding Opportunity Analysis; Funding Activity Research; and Forecasting. |
Proposal Concept Development. Assessing and developing competitive project concepts, helping members to navigate funder requirements and build relationships prior to completing submissions. Project types include: Concept Development; Competitiveness Assessment; and Outreach Consulting. |

HR Grants Learning Center
- As part of our contract with Hanover, all faculty and staff members are granted access in 2025 to Hanover’s Grants Learning Center, which offers a learning platform with self-paced courses. To register for access, please email grantwriter@sunypoly.edu to request the Referral Code. After you have the Referral Code, you can go to the Grants Learning Center Sign Up page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Hanover Research has the expertise to review a wide range of proposals, from individual grants to program project, center, and institutional training grants. Hanover Research will work with new submissions, resubmission proposals, and competing renewal applications. For resubmissions of unfunded proposals and competing renewal applications, PIs will be asked to provide a copy of the original submission along with reviewers’ comments (e.g., summary statement)
To request support from Hanover, PIs must submit the Request for Hanover Support form. The Office of Research will work with Hanover to manage and confirm requests to stay within the boundaries specified in our contract. Once the project request is confirmed, the Office of Research will put you in touch with a Hanover professional for a scoping call.

The Office of Research manages the pipeline of projects submitted to Hanover Research. Several factors are taken into consideration when evaluating projects for Hanover Research, including but not limited to the faculty member’s willingness to share proposal materials and honor agreed-upon deadlines, the completeness of proposal documents, sponsor deadlines, and current pipeline capacity. Every effort is made to accommodate all PI requests, but some worthwhile projects may not be accepted into the pipeline due to this limitation.

Any proposal materials that an investigator shares with Hanover remain confidential. Materials will only be shared with the Hanover content director and the single consultant working on their proposal.
Yes, Hanover has experience with many federal, private, and nonprofit funders. Representative funders include the NIH, NSF, DOD, PCORI, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
