American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA)
AIGA, is the professional association for design, which furthers excellence in design as a broadly-defined discipline and as a strategic tool in business and as a cultural force. AIGA is the place designers turn to exchange ideas and information, participate in critical analysis and research, and advance education and ethical practice. Communications and Media Design has a student chapter of AIGA and is active in the Upstate New York chapter, which maintains a website at upstatenewyork.aiga.org
Society for Technical Communication (STC)
The Society for Technical Communication is a professional association for people developing technical information through such occupations as technical writing, editing, graphic design, interface design, and Web design. The goal of the society is to improve the transfer of information about science and technology from its developer (e.g. scientist, engineer, inventor) to its user. STC scholarships benefit students working toward this goal. Scholarships are for $1,000 and students must have at least one year remaining in their degree
Communication Institute for Online Scholarship (CIOS) Affiliate
CIOS provides access to more than 4,500 electronic files of direct relevance to communication professionals and students: communication bibliographies, syllabi, journal articles, research tools, descriptions of graduate programs, archives of CIOS/Comserve hot line dialogues, etc., all of which are fully indexed.
