SUNY has entered into a second-year agreement with Deque Systems Inc. to provide accessibility training across all SUNY campuses. Deque University is an online digital accessibility training platform that provides comprehensive training on a wide variety of topics including web accessibility, document accessibility, accessibility management, testing, disability etiquette and more.
Deque University is an online training platform that focuses on digital accessibility. It offers over 30 courses covering accessibility for various platforms and digital types including web, mobile, and documents (MS Word, PDF). SUNY procured the service university-wide and all courses in the curriculum are available to SUNY Poly employees free of charge. The current contract with Deque ends on 8/19/22.
Courses are self-paced and most take between 30-60 minutes to complete. We recommend everyone consider taking the “Accessibility Fundamentals - Disabilities, Guidelines, and Laws” as a starting point. It provides a very good background on the concepts of accessibility. The Course Recommendations section below provides other suggestions for courses based on job roles and interests.
Accessibility skills are valuable to faculty, web page editors, and anyone who creates digital content at SUNY Poly. These courses are good for both establishing new skills and expanding existing ones. The SUNY Poly EIT working group recommends all stakeholders take advantage of these free courses.
