Work Study Program

Federal Work-Study is a financial aid program that provides part-time jobs for undergraduate students with proven financial need.

SUNY Poly Eligibility Requirements

  • Must file a FAFSA and answer “Yes” to the following question: “Are you interested in being considered for work-study?”
  • Must meet the PELL eligibility guidelines
  • Funding is limited and awards are made on a first-come basis to qualified students. File your FAFSA early!
  • Students receiving an offer of work-study on their financial aid package must log into their BannerWeb account and accept it by the start of classes or the award will be cancelled

Finding a Work-Study Job

  • All available work-study positions are posted in Handshake, SUNY Poly’s career exploration platform
  • Students must sign up for an account in Handshake
  • Once the account is active, students can apply for posted work-study positions. The postings will include a job description and required skills
  • If an office is interested, they will reach out to the student to schedule an interview
  • Once a student is hired by a campus office they will be required to attend an orientation with the Office of Human Resources to file employment paperwork
  • Human Resources will notify the student and employer (campus office) of the start and end dates of the position
  • Note: at the start of the fall semester, an on-campus job fair will take place so that students can “one-stop shop” for available positions and then proceed with applying for them in Handshake
  • Questions about Handshake? Contact the Office of Career Services: 315-792-7165 | careerservices@sunypoly.edu or stop by the office in Kunsela Hall Room B101.
