Ayiana Crabtree is the new Student Success Librarian in the Peter J. Cayan Library (room L146). Ayiana graduated with a Master of Science in Information and Library Science from the University at Buffalo in May 2024.
During the completion of their degree, Ayiana was a graduate research assistant for an IMLS grant project focusing on the retention of BIPOC librarians (https://ubwp.buffalo.edu/retention/) and has presented at several national and international conferences. They were also president of the Information Science Department Graduate Student Association while at UB. Ayiana hopes to leave a lasting impact at SUNY Polytechnic, with the goal of educating the campus on the benefits that the library and library services have to offer. She also hopes to increase student use of the libraries through informational workshops, fun events, and collaborations with various campus partners. Currently, Ayiana is working on shifting her research interests toward students' use of libraries (and the concept of library anxiety), as well as the role that AI might play in the future of libraries and how academic libraries should take initiative in educating their communities on the technology.
