
Make a Transformative Gift to the SUNY Poly Foundation and Potentially Benefit from Tax Savings
This is a unique, time-limited opportunity to make a meaningful impact on SUNY Poly students through a charitable gift to the SUNY Impact Foundation. Your contribution can be designated to support the area that means the most to you at SUNY Poly, including student scholarships. Plus, you’ll receive a significant personal benefit – 85% of your gift qualifies for a tax benefit.
New in 2025
- Following your authorization, the SUNY Impact Foundation will send an invoice that can be paid online by credit card (a 3% credit card processing fee will apply). Wire and stock transfers are also an option.
- In accordance with new federal policy, gifts made through the SUNY Impact Foundation Charitable Tax Credit Program may not be directed to student financial aid or scholarship funds.
What are the tax benefits:
- 85% tax credit on New York State taxes
- 15% deduction on New York State taxes for those who itemize their deductions
- 15% deduction on federal taxes for those who itemize their deductions
How does it work?
- Complete this simple online application. Be sure to select SUNY Polytechnic Institute as your preferred campus.
- The application link will be active until end of day on September 30, 2025.
- Once the application has been submitted by the donor, the SUNY Impact Foundation will issue an acknowledgment of application. After October 1, the SUNY Impact Foundation will send the donor an authorization donation amount – that may be prorated – with payment instructions. Once the authorization certificate has been received, donors can make their authorized donation.
- The authorized donation needs to be received by the SUNY Impact Foundation by November 30.
- At the completion of the program, the SUNY Impact Foundation will distribute the gifts designated to the SUNY Poly Foundation.
- Donations qualifying under the NYS Charitable Tax Credit Program will be limited to a minimum of $10,000 and a maximum of $100,000 per donor/tax identification number(s) and income tax filing.
What are the important dates?
- Through September 2025: applications will be queued. If the cap is reached, all requests will be prorated after October 1.
- October 1: SUNY Impact Foundation will begin processing applications
- By October 10: Authorizations to be emailed to donors
- November 21: last day for stock orders to be submitted to brokerage houses
- November 26: last day for donations to be received
- January 12: tax receipts will be processed
How can I make my donation?
- Donations accepted only in the form of ACH or wire transfers, credit card, or stocks/securities. No checks accepted.
- Credit card through the SUNY Impact Foundation is subject to approximately 3% fee, paid by the donor and does not count toward the credit.
- Stocks and securities go to UBuffalo Foundation’s endowment team to be processed. Funds will be sent to the SUNY Poly Foundation.
Other Important Details:
- All donations are subject to a 2% administrative processing fee from the SUNY Impact Foundation.
- No in-kind donations are accepted.
- Donors can, if desired, designate their gift.
- Only individuals are eligible: no corporations, S-corps, family foundations, or donor advised funds.
- Statutory language of New York State Charitable Tax Credit for Higher Education and can be found within Chapter 59 of the laws of 2018, Part LL. (References Article 22 and Section 606 of NYS tax law).
- Credit card gifts are subject to an additional 2.98% fee and should be the last option for payment.
- To take full advantage of the tax credit, the donor should have a tax liability in NYS for at least the amount of the requested tax credit.
