Applications Now Being Accepted for SUNY Poly Summer STEM Programs

Exciting STEM themed youth camps are filling up quickly in Albany, Rochester and Utica

Albany, NY – SUNY Polytechnic Institute today announced applications are currently being accepted for its 2016 STEM based youth summer camp programs being offered across New York State.  The camps provide young innovators with an exciting opportunity to immerse themselves in scientific exploration in areas including robotics, nanotechnology, animation and filmmaking. SUNY Poly’s summer camp programs are extremely popular and several offerings are already nearing capacity.

“We are delighted to once again offer a wide range of engaging summer programming for children and teens that will excite their imaginations and spur greater appreciation and understanding of STEM fields and the important role they play in the world today,” said SUNY Poly President and CEO Dr. Alain Kaloyeros.  “One of our core missions is to maintain New York State’s highly skilled workforce in order to continue the explosive growth and success of its innovation based economy.  These camps are a wonderful opportunity to show young people how science, technology, engineering and math can come together to do amazing things and potentially inspire them to pursue careers in those areas.”

SUNY Poly’s summer camp programs promote scientific exploration in supportive, nurturing environments where children can meet new friends, gain confidence in their skills and feel good about who they are while learning new things.  In Albany, programs are offered in July and August at SUNY Poly’s Children’s Museum of Science and Technology (CMOST) and include offerings for children in grades K-8.   Popular programs such as Lego™ Engineers, Robomakers and Brickfilm Production have limited spaces remaining.  SUNY Poly’s Utica site offers camps for ages 9-15 and still has availability in its Robotics and Engineering camp and the Lego Mindstorms program.  Offerings run the last week of June through the month of July.  In Rochester, SUNY Poly’s partnership with Nazareth College has created various summer camp opportunities that utilize popular themes such as Harry Potter and C.S.I. to foster an interest in STEM education.  This year, up to 75 students at the Rochester City School District will benefit from full scholarships to attend camp.  Additionally, SUNY Poly’s annual summer programming at the Carter Street Rec Center returns for 6 half-day sessions providing children with a hands-on introduction to the exciting world of nanotechnology.
