UTICA, NY – SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) is pleased to welcome John Reade as the university’s new director of pre-collegiate outreach. Reade brings decades of experience implementing youth STEAM programs and leading complex projects to the role.

“We are excited to have John leading our pre-collegiate outreach efforts at SUNY Poly,” said Vice President of Institutional Advancement Andrea LaGatta. “Moreover, we can’t wait to welcome the area’s youth to campus, further establishing SUNY Poly as a resource for our educational partners in the Mohawk Valley. John’s unique skillset is a tremendous asset as we move to strengthen these existing partnerships, and forge new relationships with school districts and youth-focused organizations in the region.”

“Empowering our youth through the development of problem-solving skills and technological literacy is a passion of mine,” said Reade. “I look forward to working with our partners in the region to develop and implement STEAM programs that will not only engage students in the Mohawk Valley, and across the state, but also introduce them to our campus, as well as possible career pathways.”

Reade will also be coordinating hands-on learning experiences such as workshops, camps, and competitions, ensuring that local K-12 students are provided with the resources and opportunities to succeed in their future academic and professional endeavors. He will also work with Director of Continuing & Professional Education Scott Scheible to support professional development opportunities for K-12 educators, enabling them to bring the latest technology concepts into the classroom.

He joins SUNY Poly after 18 years at Quanterion Solutions Incorporated, where he most recently served as the Director of IT and Systems. Additionally, he has eight years of volunteer experience developing and implementing drone-focused STEAM programs with CNY Drones, further demonstrating his commitment to fostering STEAM education and community engagement. Reade has also previously served on the foundation boards for Ilion CSD and Central Valley CSD.

Reade, a Sauquoit native, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from St. John Fisher University, and more recently, an MBA in Technology Management from SUNY Poly. He can be reached at john.reade@sunypoly.edu.
