UTICA, NY – “Aviation is a Team Sport,” a camp offered by CNY Drones July 29-August 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. as part of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) Summer Spotlight Series, is now free thanks to the generosity of Rome-based Assured Information Security (AIS).

“This initiative provides students with a unique and fun opportunity to engage with cutting-edge drone technology and develop essential STEM skills,” said Charles Green, CEO at Assured Information Security (AIS) and 1993 SUNY Poly alum. “AIS is proud to sponsor this SUNY Poly camp and invest in the future of engineering and innovation. We strongly believe in the value of hands-on learning and teamwork, and we’re honored to contribute to a program that prepares students for successful STEM careers.”

The action-packed Official U.S. Drone Soccer Association STEM camp, open to kids 12-18 years old, blends robotics, aviation, and competitive team play. The immersive program goes beyond the ordinary, teaching students to build, program, and fly professional-grade drones in a thrilling 5 vs. 5 full-contact aerial sport. Aspiring engineers will gain hands-on experience, collaborating with teammates to solve engineering challenges and engaging in team flight operations within a secure, netted enclosure. Participants will also receive a Youth Membership to the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) as part of this Official U.S. Drone Soccer Association course.

The camp allows for 20 participants and is first come, first served with registration opening this Wednesday, June 12 at 9 a.m. At that time, you can register at https://sunypoly.edu/spotlight.html.

“AIS has been a tremendous partner to SUNY Poly and we are grateful for their support of this camp,” said Vice President for Institutional Advancement Andrea LaGatta. “It not only offers an amazing STEM experience to local youth but also allows them to foster the technical skills that the aviation industry demands.”

The drone camp is just one experience offered this summer in the SUNY Poly Spotlight Series, a robust collection of events, workshops, and camps for all ages. Showcasing the expertise of faculty and community members, the series provides opportunities for fun and learning in the areas of STEM, the arts, athletics, wellness, and more.
