The Buffalo News: AMRI move into new market could boost company’s

The Buffalo News Albany Molecular Research Inc. is entering a new biomedical market, a development that could lead to an expansion of the company’s drug-discovery facility now under construction on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

AMRI is moving into the protein, or proteomics, market, with an early focus on protein expression and purification. That market is predicted to grow to $9.2 billion by 2018, the company said in a statement this week.

Some of this new line of business could be added to AMRI’s Buffalo facility, where the company initially planned to conduct drug discovery and drug development.

It’s not yet known precisely how many additional AMRI workers may come to Buffalo, where the state is building the company a research center, but Alain E. Kaloyeros, the state’s point person on the project, told The Buffalo News the effect could be “significant.”
