Good Morning!

We continue our Campus Fire Safety Month with some more ways to be Fire Safe...

  1. Cook safely.  Whether you are using the stoves / ovens in the dorm kitchens, in off-campus apartments, or microwaves in the dorms or offices, please follow directions and add water to any items that require water (e.g. microwavable macaroni and cheese).  DO NOT LEAVE MICROWAVES OR COOKING FOODS UNATTENDED!
  2. If there is a fire in the kitchen... Do not use water on grease fires.  Do not open microwave doors if something inside is on fire - if safe to do so, unplug the microwave and leave the door closed.
  3. Sound the Alarm!  If you see a fire, use pull station alarms on your way out of a room or building.
  4. Important numbers to know - University Police - 315-792-7111 or 7111 from a campus phone.  Environmental Health & Safety Office - 315-792-7101.  Facilities Department - 315-792-7456.

Check out this video of Barrett Cohen, the brother A.J. Cohen, a victim of a college fire -"The Aftermath of a Fatal College Fire"  - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEUvvWXCV90.

Watch our fire safety videos streaming over the campus TV Channel 10 and watch for fire safety reminders throughout our campus.  Together we can ensure a fire safe community.

Please email the EHS office at SUNYPOLYEHS@sunypoly.edu if you have any questions.

Enjoy your day and be safe!

Sean Clive, Director - Environmental Health & Safety Office
