Good Morning!

We continue our Campus Fire Safety Month with some more ways to be aware of how to be fire safe.

  1. Respond to Fire Alarms.  Any fire alarm should be considered a true emergency.  Please respond appropriately - be calm, follow evacuation procedures, get out safely.
  2. No Smoking or E-cigarettes in buildings or rooms.  Smoke or vapors can cause fire alarms to activate. Be sure to close your bathroom door when showering to prevent steam from activating alarms.
  3. Fire Safety Equipment.  Do not tamper with, cover, remove, or touch smoke detectors or sprinklers.  These devices are in place to keep you and your neighbors safe in the event of a fire.
  4. Be aware and make the call.  Pay attention to your surroundings - if a situation is unsafe or could cause a fire, please report the conditions immediately.  If you notice smoke or fire, please contact University Police - if necessary, use Blue Emergency call boxes or red emergency phones.
  5. Important numbers to know - University Police - 315-792-7111 or 7111 from a campus phone.  Environmental Health & Safety Office - 315-792-7101.  Facilities Department - 315-792-7456.

Check out this video trailer for "After The Fire" - a documentary based on the practical joke that turned deadly, and the experiences of survivors of the Seton Hall Dorm fire of 2000 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ7vBKPQLAY.

Watch our fire safety videos streaming over the campus TV Channel 10 and watch for fire safety reminders throughout our campus.  Together we can ensure a fire safe community.

Please email the EHS office at SUNYPOLYEHS@sunypoly.edu if you have any questions.
