Introducing the Newest Wildcats
We hope all of our returning students had a wonderful summer and are ready for an exciting academic year ahead! This includes welcoming over 750 new first-year and transfer students into the SUNY Poly campus community. Here are some fun facts about them!
First-year students:
- Most popular majors are computer science (81) and mechanical engineering (44).
- The most popular name of the cohort is Michael, with 11, followed by six Christophers.
- There are 11 countries (outside of the U.S.) represented with international students hailing from Ghana, Nigeria, Albania, Bangladesh, Canada, Egypt, Guinea, India, Kenya, Nepal and Turkey!
- As New York’s Premier Public Polytechnic, the large majority of our students are from the Empire State. However, we are also welcoming first-year students from Connecticut, New Jersey, California, Georgia, Hawaii, Pennsylvania and Vermont.
- Fifty-seven of our first-years are student-athletes, with 15 of them joining the men’s soccer team and eight joining the baseball team.
Transfer students:
- Most popular majors are business administration (40) and computer science (39).
- There are five students each named Christopher, Cole and Michael, as well as four named Isabella.
- We are welcoming transfer students from Ghana, South Korea and Spain, as well as California, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
- Eleven transfer students are student-athletes, joining the following teams: men’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, softball, baseball and men’s lacrosse.
