(The following is a message from the SUNY Poly Blood Drive Account Manager.)

To all our friends at SUNY Poly,

With our most sincere gratitude to each of you we send this message of thanks for partnering with the American Red Cross and hosting a blood program yet again this year.   We are so grateful to have SUNY Polytechnic Institute as a part of our life saving mission, and want you to know the impact your generosity has had on our community.

Your blood donations have totaled 166 this year. This was an additional 38 more than we collected last school season!!!! These donations were made into life saving products and have saved up to 498 lives!

This is a tremendous contribution to make.  To give the gift of life to another person, is a gift that goes beyond that individual. It is a gift also to their families, friends, and loved ones.  It is the gift of a parent for a child, a chance to gain strength again to beat cancer, or perhaps it acts as a routine medicine for a patient who just can’t live their daily life without receiving regular blood transfusion.  It is the difference of patient surviving a traumatic car or boating accident, or the medicine needed to heal from severe burns from a house fire.  Donations also play a role in doctors being able to perform routine surgeries.

One out of every 3 people will find themselves in the situation where they require a blood transfusion, whether it be whole blood, red blood cells, platelets, or plasma. They will rely on the kindness of businesses like SUNY Poly and donors like you to provide this, as science has yet discovered how to manufacture blood.   Only 38 % of the population is eligible to give, so when you say “YES” to hosting us, to helping recruit donors, or to actually donating blood, you are really making a difference.

From all of these patients, their loved ones, and all of us at the American Red Cross, thank you.

We look forward to seeing you all again in the 2017/2018 Semesters and wish you each a safe and blessed Summer.
