State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher says $18 million will be invested in the SUNY system on programs to increase degree completion.
The grants announced Monday — part of the chancellor’s annual state of SUNY address in Albany — include $450,000 for SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Marcy, Mohawk Valley Community College and SUNY Morrisville. With SUNY Poly as the lead campus, a “High Impact Learning and Teaching Hub” will be created at the three schools.

The initiative emphasizes internships, undergraduate research, service learning, project-based learning and other practices that engage students both inside and outside of the traditional classroom and laboratory environment, according to SUNY Poly spokesman Jerry Gretzinger. He says the intent is to formalize and expand upon practices that already occur at SUNY Poly, MVCC and Morrisville, providing a framework for broader adoption campuswide, regionwide and statewide.
