I wanted to share with you a recent article published in the Rome Sentinel:

A special space to provide sanctuary, camaraderie for student veterans and service members is now in place at SUNY Polytechnic Institute.

The lounge is a way for SUNY Poly to honor members of the armed forces among its student body. It is a recognition and demonstration of the Marcy school’s gratitude for the sacrifices they have made on our behalf. It provides student veterans with new opportunities to connect and communicate with fellow service members.

The lounge is a meeting place for veterans to exchange information and give advice on how they obtained their benefits. It also provides a space for student veterans to enjoy the camaraderie they shared while in the service.

The transition from military life to civilian and campus life can be a challenging one. The lounge in Donovan Hall can be an addition that supports the success of veteran students.

Congratulations to Student Veterans of America Chapter President Lance Tlustos Jr. and other chapter members for seeing a need on campus and then working to fill it. A prime focus of the group is ensuring that student veterans make the transition from the military environment to campus life, and assisting them in their progress toward completing their academic degree and beyond to the workforce.
