Sent on behalf of Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Robert Geer,

Colleagues,

Following a lengthy and inclusive consultation process involving all the key stakeholders of our two campuses, the newly merged CNSE/SUNYIT will formally announce the institution's new name, The SUNY Polytechnic Institute, on Monday, August 11.

This announcement comes after an extensive period of fully-engaged and deliberate consultation that was initiated in March of this year immediately following the SUNY Board of Trustees action to merge our two campuses. The consultation process included faculty, staff, students and alumni from both the Utica and Albany campuses as well as our College Council and the SUNYIT Foundation.

In May of this year, each of the three faculty and staff governance bodies at SUNYIT and CNSE actively discussed the proposed name and provided their feedback which, overall, was in favor.  Likewise, both the SUNYIT College Council and the SUNYIT Foundation adopted resolutions in June of this year which endorsed the renaming of the merged institution as the SUNY Polytechnic Institute.

So that we may begin this new and important chapter in the history of both our organizations and actively promote our unified institution as SUNY's newest and most vibrant campus, I invite all of you to share in this very important milestone.

There are several active parts to this process, not the least of which is the design of a new logo and seals for the individual colleges for which we will be hiring an outside firm. We look forward to your engaged participation at each step in this exciting and extremely important transition.

Thank you.
