NY1117235 Staff Attorney. Full time for the Resource Center for Independent Living in Utica, NY.

SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to assist the CEO, and the overall Agency with all legal related issues, conduct legal research, interpret statutes, review regulations, rules and operating procedures of federal, state and local governing bodies, and provide legal advice and opinions to the CEO in all matters pertaining to the legal matters of RCIL.

DUTIES: The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, maintain familiarity with all requirements of law and regulation affecting the operation of the corporation, advises executives on contracts, third party agreements, vendor/supplier relationships, and business terms of various deals, and provides ongoing risk analysis of these issues, provides legal counsel and support to functional and/or operational groups within the organization; provides legal support to business on strategic initiatives of the company and answers inquiries from staff regarding legal matters, reviews current policies, procedures, handbooks and updates, and provides advice on their application, provides guidance on policies or procedures that should be developed to promote compliant and efficient operations, advise Human Resources, Risk Management, Compliance and other departments on implementation of their areas of responsibility, provides training to company on legal topics of relevance, review s business operations to maintain compliance in all legal aspects and develops legal opinions, on Company business model and any potential changes to the Company business model, represents the Company in litigation in various forums to include state and federal trial, appellate and administrative courts, participates in settlement negotiations and mediations, as required, supports RCIL's Mission and Philosophy, and other duties and responsibilities as determined by the Executive Director and/or the Board of Directors.

REQUIREMENTS: J.D. Degree from an accredited higher education institution and active members of the NYS Bar Association and compliant with NYS CLE requirements.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 6 to 10 years experience in the corporate environment, including familiarity in ADA/Disability rights, Employment Law, Contracts, General Business Litigation, Corporate Compliance, and New York State Department of Labor Rules and Regulations with emphasis on laws and regulations governing 501C(3) not for profit organizations.

WORK EXPERIENCE: Experience resolving conflict between groups with opposing perspectives, agendas, or priorities, ability to handle long-term and/or complex legal projects with significant financial or other business impact, ability to write business legal reports and correspondence, ability to effectively present information to Senior Management and Board of Directors, ability to represent RCIL and clearly communicate complex policy, legal, and technical concepts in many forums including presentations, meetings with decision makers and partners, and media interviews, and ability to respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies, customers and business community.
