SUNY Poly’s Dr. Andrew Gallup Publishes Book on Evolutionary Studies in Higher Education
UTICA – Dr. Andrew Gallup, assistant professor for the College of Arts and Sciences at SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly), has published a book due out later this month that explores the way evolutionary theory can be integrated across higher education and how it relates to all aspects of life.
“Darwin’s Roadmap to the Curriculum: Evolutionary Studies in Higher Education,” co-edited by Dr. Gallup, Glenn Geher, David Sloan Wilson and Hadassah Head, has been in the works for over three years.
“The goal is to emphasize the applications of evolutionary theory across all facets of life and human affairs, demonstrate the practical value of a formal education in evolutionary theory, and to provide a framework for the development and assessment of interdisciplinary evolutionary studies programs in higher education,” Dr. Gallup said.
The book also aims to give clarification to those in educated societies its editors claim may be “famously misinformed and uneducated about Darwinian principles and ideas.”
Dr. Gallup believes Darwin’s theory of evolution remains a controversial subject, but is becoming more accepted today than in previous generations.
“Acceptance of evolutionary theory continues to increase over time and tremendous progress has been made in terms of applying evolutionary theory to various aspects of human life and public policy.”
The book will be released May 29, 2019, and can be ordered here.
