SUNY Polytechnic Institute's Colleges of Nanoscale Science and Engineering and DeWitt-based Inficon Inc. have announced an alliance to conduct research into new process controls for the semiconductor industry.

Under a two-year research and development agreement announced Monday, Inficon will utilize SUNY Poly's NanoTech complex in Albany and its planned Computer Chip Commercialization Center in Marcy to develop new process controls for the manufacture of semiconductors.

The alliance is expected to create 50 jobs at the SUNY Poly facilities. However, Inficon President Peter Maier said the alliance could lead to the development of new products that the company could sell to semiconductor manufacturers, leading to more jobs in DeWitt.
