Job Description Summary

The System Administrator is responsible to the IT Director of Enterprise Infrastructure. This position works with the IT Department to provide quality and responsive end user support to OCC employees and students for enterprise infrastructure including: campus network and connectivity systems, Data center, Internet services, security, virtualization, storage, server administration, backup and disaster recovery. This position in collaboration with the System Administrator team is responsible for ensuring a highly reliable, available and secure technology environment that supports academic, administrative and student computing.

Major Responsibilities

• Technical support for the enterprise network environment spanning multiple facilities, Data Center, Storage management, Server administration, Backup/Disaster recovery, Account provisioning and maintenance.

• Monitor and maintain industry standard server, database, application and enterprise systems, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance.

• Monitor system availability to ensure optimal performance levels.

• Plan and execute backup and recovery procedures for applications servers and other systems.

• Develop and maintain system documentation.

• Assist in establishing and enforcing security policies and procedures.

• Establish and maintain relationships with external suppliers and contractors including hardware, software, and service procurement.

• Position is on call and may require remote or on-campus technical support outside of standard business hours.

• Provide backup coverage to other IT staff.

• Other duties as assigned by members of the IT Leadership Team.

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands on technical expertise in the areas discussed in this position guide.

• Knowledge and experience in UNIX, Linux, Virtualization, Server and desktop systems, Directory services, Open Source, Web and Database systems.

• Proven ability to successfully operate within a customer service framework.

• Proven ability to successfully complete multiple projects within scope, budget and schedule.

• Experience with operational change and problem management procedures.

• Knowledge and experience in project management principles and practice.

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
