Three leading educational institutions in the Tech Valley Region are partnering with SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) — a global leader in creating research innovators — to launch a program that will prepare students for the rigors of careers in the sciences, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.

Starting with the 2014-15 school year, the CNSE STEM program will be housed at the CNSE in Albany in the Tech Valley High School building.

The initiative will utilize a highly effective program model that is used by New Visions Programs throughout New York state.

The program is being overseen by Questar III and Capital Region BOCES in conjunction with TVHS and CNSE.

Through the program, high school seniors will participate in a rich program of project-based instruction, early college and hands-on learning in various advanced manufacturing and research settings.

Students will enroll in a college course on the CNSE campus each semester and fulfill 12th grade English and social studies 12 requirements for graduation.

The goal is for each student to be exposed to a variety of careers in the emerging technologies and be encouraged to pursue careers in these fields after high school. Students will interact with professionals in science and technology on the CNSE campus.

Students will return to their high schools each day and take a minimum of one course.

Up to 15 seniors from schools throughout the Tech Valley Region will be selected for the program.

For more information, contact Jeannine Moran at Capital Region BOCES (If you reside in a Capital Region BOCES school district) at 862-4800 or Ted Hennessey at Questar III at 479-6914 for Questar III schools.
