ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The former lieutenant governor and current leader of the Rochester Business Alliance has been named chairman of the American Institute for Manufacturing Photonics Leadership Council.

SUNY Polytechnic Institute announced Monday that Bob Duffy will head up the strategic and technical vision for the incoming Integrated Photonics Institute for Manufacturing Innovation.

Duffy will be tasked with guiding innovation and job creation for the photonics industry in Western New York, which local politicians claim will generate thousands of jobs across the area.

Recently, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the Legacy Tower will be the headquarters for the institute. A separate governance board will be set up to oversee and implement the program.

Another four members will be named to the leadership council at a later date.

I look forward to working with AIM leadership on ensuring the best possible return on this public investment through effective governance, engaging with industry partners and continually recruiting new companies and jobs to the area,” Duffy said in a statement released by SUNY Polytechnic.
