ALBANY, N.Y. -- Twelve students from the Peshawar Army Public School in Pakistan toured the $20 billion Albany NanoTech Complex on Wednesday .

It's the same Pakistan school where in Dec. 2014, Taliban terrorists killed more than 140 students and teachers in their classrooms.

The tour was part of an effort to build relationships overseas.

“One of the things were focusing on is furthering the U.S.-Pakistan relationship. The program that brought these boys to the United States is sponsored by the U.S. embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan," said Bonnie Glick, Meridian International Center.

The group joined four American students to learn about nano-economics, from trying on suits to discovering 3D printing.

“This visit is an opportunity to see cutting-edge technology from the United States but also to give them an understanding of what their future holds," said Glick.

Most, like Hammid Iham, are interested in becoming engineers.

“My father was an engineer in the Pakistan Air Force so I want to be an engineer like him too," said Iham.

The weeklong experience, called the “NanoDiscovery” Institute, will bring them together to invent science related items for the fun of competition.

“The American students know, the Pakistani students know that competition in life is not across the classroom from you anymore. It’s all over the world," said Glick.

Organizers say they hope it will have a positive effect on their future after a horrific act.

“We are hoping that they take something away from this both educationally and culturally to be able to see what New York state has to offer and the United States," said Jerry Gretzinger of the NanoDiscovery Institute.
