Time Warner Cable News: SUNY Leaders Seek Aid from New York

SUNY school leaders are asking state lawmakers for additional funding in the upcoming budget and to extend the NYSUNY 2020 initiative. Educators say in order to keep advancing their programs and services without dramatically increasing tuition, they need the state to invest. As Cara Thomas reports, that investment could help exponentially boost graduation rates.

When Governor Cuomo signed the New York SUNY 2020 legislation back in 2011, SUNY leaders say it was one of the best decisions he'd ever made.

Robert Geer, vice president of SUNY Polytechnic Institute, said, "New rational tuition revenue has been fed back in to benefit our students by hiring more than 500 new faculty and instructional staff, increasing course offerings and expanding tuition assistance."
