This month, SUNY Poly's Title IX Working Group would like to provide the campus community with our training and education plan for students and employees for 2015-2016.  SUNY Poly’s goal is to educate all students and employees on SUNY’s new Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Policies, in order to assist in maintaining a safe campus environment in which sexual violence is not tolerated and Title IX complaints are taken seriously and responded to appropriately.

SUNY Poly’s Title IX Working Group understands that education is key when it comes to Title IX-related issues, and our goal is to reach 100% of both the employee and student populations in our training efforts.  While 100% is an aggressive target, our aim is to reach the majority of the population within the next year, and we plan to keep our campus community updated on our progress.  Calendar year staff will be trained throughout the summer on the new SUNY-wide uniform policies, while faculty and academic year employees will be scheduled to attend training sessions in the fall.

All new first year students, student athletes, international students, student leaders and officers of student clubs/organizations, Residence Advisor staff and Orientation Advisors will receive training within the first 30 days of the semester.  All new transfer/graduate students will also complete the online SUNY Essentials program that will include Title IX information.  Not Anymore, an interactive online program designed to prevent sexual assault, dating/domestic violence and stalking will also be rolled out to all students for mandatory completion in the fall.  This program will be customized with SUNY Poly policies and resources, and will also be available for faculty and staff to view as well.

Ongoing Education Initiatives throughout the next year will include:

  • Bathroom Buzz:  educational flyers displayed in bathroom stalls campus wide on various Title IX/Sexual Violence Prevention and Response topics
  • Title IX on the 9th:  Communication sent out to all faculty, staff and students on the 9th of every month in the form of a community email.  Each month, a different SUNY Poly Title IX policy, procedure, or resource will be highlighted for the campus community
  • SUNY Poly Title IX brochure will be available online as well as in print form in every campus building
  • “Get some . . . Consent!” campaign:  Posters displayed around campus with messages related to affirmative consent and the prevention of sexual violence
  • Partnering with State and local community organizations to provide on campus training and education

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming training sessions.

Thank you,
