Utica Observer-Dispatch: 2 at SUNY Poly receive grant for
innovative program

Daniel Jones and Mohammed Abdallah were sitting around their office brainstorming ways to make student life easier and more effective.

“We thought it would be great if students could just sit in their rooms or off-campus and run experiments in a lab,” said Jones, associate professor of mechanical engineering technology.

He and Abdallah, assistant professor of electrical engineering, work at SUNY Polytechnic Institute and are in the developing stages of an advanced online learning program.

“The idea is there’s a robot in the lab that pushes buttons, picks things up and puts them in place,” Jones said. “You would be able to do the calculations and run the experiments.”
