Area federal representatives are hopeful that language in a major federal spending bill will one day benefit Upstate New York manufacturing.

The spending bill, which is expected to be approved by the House of Representatives and Senate this week, would authorize an initial $300 million to create a national network of 15 manufacturing hubs.

It’s the hope of New York officials that the state would get one.

“Upstate New York deserves the chance to lead the nation in high-tech manufacturing, and this first-ever legislation to create 15 manufacturing hubs could do just that,” said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.

Called the Revitalize American Manufacturing and Innovation Act of 2014, the legislation would work to better link research and development with actual innovation and use by American manufacturers. It would include educational institutions, federal agencies and all levels of government.
