I wanted to share with you the following article that was published by the Utica Observer Dispatch :

 

ROME

Ten-year-old Aydan Brown of Rome waived a statically charged wand above his head as he concentrated on keeping Mylar ribbon floating in the air as part of a science experiment.

Aydan and other children participated in the National NanoDays celebration at the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley Tuesday in Rome. They had the opportunity to learn about light refraction, electroencephalogram technology and how static electricity repels or attracts objects.

“The whole idea is to get them (the kids) interested at an early age in science, math, engineering and technology,” said Marv Meissner, SUNY Polytechnic Institute director of continuing education as he led the static electricity experiment. “We find the best way to do that is through fun activities that kids can do and participate in.”
