In a political and economic whirlwind, Gov. Andrew Cuomo came to Marcy in August to make the big nanotechnology announcement for which many in the area had been waiting.

What happened

> In a political and economic whirlwind, Gov. Andrew Cuomo came to Marcy in August to make the big nanotechnology announcement for which many in the area had been waiting. Two major companies will be investing billions of dollars for nanotechnology research and manufacture in Marcy. That investment could generate as many as 4,000 new jobs by 2025, more than half of which are expected by sometime in 2017, officials said.

> In late August, stalking and coercion charges were levied against Frank Tallarino, Oneida County Board of Legislators Democratic minority leader. Tallarino was charged with three counts of fourth-degree stalking and one count of second-degree coercion. He is accused of stalking a woman he believes owes him $45,000. He has pleaded not guilty.

> The Mohawk Valley region was awarded $100.3 million in December as part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Upstate Revitalization Competition, missing out on one of three $500 million prizes. Those prizes went to the Finger Lakes, Southern Tier and Central New York regions. The local Regional Economic Development Council had made a pitch for the $500 million, as well, citing the nanotechnology initiatives in Marcy and stressing three key areas of investment: the technology industry, agribusiness and tourism.
