High tech jobs are coming this way..whether it be in the nano field or in the field...of drones.

The Rome Chamber of Commerce teamed up with Rome schools and a local company to bring students closer to this emerging technology. NewsChannel 2's Nicole Pitt reports.

Local high school students from RFA, Camden and Holland Patent attended a day long seminar at the beeches--- to learn about unmanned air systems...also known as drones.

The Rome based high tech company Andro-- hosted the event.

You've heard a lot about nano tech in the are and drones or UAV tech is equally important...and we have to build upon our strength if we want to continue this kind of workforce we are going to have to educate these kids to enter this workforce..and become part of that

Dr. Tim Busch, Asst. Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, SUNY Poly said, "One of the problems that we face at the university is a lack of good preparation in math in particular, as folks are coming into university. So I'm hoping as we look at things like quad copters and we get an enthusiasm for what goes inside these things.

Guest speakers went into detail about all of the different things these systems will be able to do..in the near future.

Zachary Smith senior, RFA said, there's farming applications you can survey your fields, crop dusting, google is trying to put WIFI across the globe....Amazon is using them to deliver packages. There's a million different things you can do.

Mohammed Samir Ashraf Abdelhak, senior at RFA said, "I absolutely am learning a lot of new things today...a lot of it is math..which has never been my strong suit but it's clicking in there it's going"

The students split into groups- and calculated GPS coordinates...mapping out a flight pattern for the quad copters on the lawn at the beeches.

Mohammed Samir Ashraf Abdelhak senior, RFA said, we had to find the correct coordinates of basically where all the little markers are out there are so then when we fly the drone over that it should come up over that it should come up with the exact same or at least relatively close to where it was.

I think eventually once there are a lot of laws passed about these kinds of drones that you're going to see them like flying all over, just buzzing by driving on your way to work oh look there goes another drone, Zachary said. “Everything is going to be faster, easier, it's going to be interesting to see.

Plans to make this an annual host a week-long camp for event---and on top of that-- hundreds of kids-- next summer with high profile speakers. Reporting in Rome - Nicole Pitt NewsChannel 2.
