There's a good chance any of the programs you used on your phone or computer today were created by experienced programmers through coding.

And for younger generations, many believe that by teaching students to write code early, they may be able to fill the growing need for programmers in industries across the country.

Daniel Jones, an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at SUNY Poly says, "I think it would help anybody, whether they think they're going to be in a technical field, an engineering field or not, if they're just going to be in business or some other technical field. I think it's important that they know how to code, and if they start at an early age it's a lot easier, and you can pick it up faster."

Professor Jones and a number of other educators believe that learning code is similar to learning a new language, but it's also research that supports that coding in grade level education is linked to increased abilities in problem solving.
