In April 1994, the Division of Student Affairs adopted the following mission statement:
The mission of the Division of Student Affairs is to provide for the intellectual, cultural, academic, social, physical, ethical, spiritual, and emotional development of students so that they will be fully prepared as citizens of the institute and the broader society. The Student Affairs Division is an integral contributor to the institute's teaching and service mission and provides a supportive role for students and faculty toward the success of this mission.
Developing the full potential of all students is central to the student affairs philosophy. In order to attain this goal, we are sensitive to and knowledgeable about different backgrounds, cultures, and personal characteristics evident in our diverse student body. In partnership with the academic community, we create educational opportunities and reduce barriers that inhibit the full development of students. We provide opportunities for personal development, health education, career awareness, physical fitness and recreation, a positive residential experience, volunteerism, and leadership development.
