Building Amenities

  • Entrances
    All public entrances to the Cayan Library are equipped with automatic door-openers|
  • Elevator
    Elevator service is available on both public floors of the library, and the elevator is equipped with Braille-encoded elevator buttons
  • Restrooms
    • Restrooms with stalls that meet ADA compliance guidelines are available near the elevators and stairwells on both public floors of the library
    • An all-gender restroom, available to all patrons, is located behind the main service desk
  • Main Service Desk
    The large service desk for both library services and the IT Helpdesk is counter height with a standard desk height (approximately 28 inches) section to accommodate patrons and staff who use wheelchairs, scooters and other other mobility aids

Emergency Evacuation Procedures

The alarm systems in the Cayan Library have strobe lights for the hearing impaired
Please exit the building when alarms are activated, using the stairs rather than the elevator
Patrons who use mobility aids who find themselves on the second floor during an evacuation can wait in the Area of Rescue indicated by signage in the elevation/stair landing
 

Library Services & Equipment

Library personnel strive to make library resources, services and spaces accessible to all patrons.  Requests for accessible versions of library materials, or for the modification of services and spaces, can be made directly to the Library Director via library@sunypoly.edu, with the subject line Accessibility Request, or by telephone, 315-792-7246.

Equipment for accessibility located in the library includes:

  • TeleSensory Voyager XL CCD optical magnification system
  • Desktop PCs featuring Microsoft Ease of Access software including magnifier, narrator, on-screen keyboard, and Windows speech recognition
  • Apple MacIntosh computers featuring system preferences for accessibility including zoom, VoiceOver, descriptions, captions, dictation, and keyboard, mouse and trackpad adjustments
