Fall 2024 Move-In Information
We’re so excited to see new and returning Wildcats! While we're finalizing details for Fall 2024, feel free to check out the information below to start getting ready. We can't wait to welcome you all!
All registered SUNY Poly students will receive an email regarding move-in information (sent to their SUNY Poly email address).
*Note: Students may not move into their residence hall before the start of the semester unless the Director of Housing has granted permission via email. Students must also be in good standing with the student accounts office before being permitted to move in.
First-year students move in on Thursday, August 22, 2024, and students will reside in Oriskany or Hilltop Hall. Before move-in day, the Office of Residence Life and Housing will send an email requesting that new incoming first-year students choose a move-in time. To reduce wait times, we ask that students adhere to their selected check-out time as closely as possible.
Upon entering the campus, follow the directional signs to the Orientation Check-in Location (refer to the Campus Map). SUNY Poly staff and faculty will assist students, their families, and friends in transporting their possessions. Large utility bins will be available so we encourage students to pack items into boxes or bins for safe and secure transport. Details and confirmation regarding move-in will be sent to the students’ SUNY Poly email before move-in. Remember to log into your SUNY Poly email daily for up-to-date information!
Transfer students check in on Thursday, August 22, and reside in Adirondack or Hilltop Halls. Before move-in day, the Office of Residence Life and Housing will send an email requesting that new incoming transfer students choose a move-in time. To reduce wait times, we ask that students adhere to their selected check-out time as closely as possible.
Upon entering the campus, follow the directional signs to Check In at Kunsela Hall (Campus Map).
Room Condition Report
Room Condition Reports are to be completed once you have checked in to your residence and are found in the housing portal. The deadline to submit your electronic RCR is two days (48 hours) past your move-in date. Be as detailed as possible when completing your RCR, and if you have questions please ask your RA when they are completing it with you. After moving out, staff from Housing and Facilities will inspect your room for damages. If damages are found, your account will be charged accordingly.
Dining
All resident meal plans begin Saturday, August 24 at dinner. First-year and new transfer student meals will be included during your new student orientation. Visit Wildcat Hospitality for additional information.
What to Bring and Not to Bring to Campus
View the list of items that are allowed and not allowed on campus. We also encourage you to refer to the Residential Policies and Procedures for more details regarding prohibited items. We have also created a slide deck to highlight some recommended items to bring and packing tips.
Tips for Move-In Day
- Take a breath and enjoy the moment
- Bring a bottle of water and snack
- Stay on paved roadways to drop off items
- A limited number of rolling carts are available but if you own a handcart, bring it! It’ll help get you in your room faster. Do not expect to be able to use a cart but we do have a few
- Pack light and efficiently. Having items in bins and boxes with your name identified clearly can help ensure everything is delivered promptly and securely to your room
- If you are bringing a car to remain on campus have your make, model, and license plate information ready at check-in
Arriving at your scheduled move-in time is imperative to a smooth check-in day. We purposefully spread out floors, suites, and building move-in times to ensure less stress on the unload zones, elevators, and in general during move-in. Arriving outside of your time will likely cause a delay for yourself and others. If you need to make a change to your move-in time you can do so by logging into the housing and dining portal up until August 20 to make a change. Changes after that time should be sent to the residence life office at reslife@sunypoly.edu.
If you wish to move into your Fall 2024 assignment for personal reasons before the above-outlined dates, you will need to submit an Early Arrival request. Please note that the submission of this form does not guarantee approval for early arrival. The Office of Residential Life reserves the right to deny a request for any reason.
If you will be arriving early for a pre-approved Athletics or a SUNY Poly Affiliated Organization/Program (for example a pre-season athlete, an Orientation Leader, SECON student, an Orientation Volunteer, a Resident Advisor, etc.) Your coach/supervisor will often send a list but you are encouraged to complete this form as well to ensure our office is aware of your arrival.
Early arrival approval is granted strictly via e-mail correspondence with the Office of Residential Life, specifically the assigned complex’s Assistant Director. If approved, you will receive a confirmed move-in date/time via e-mail.
All resident meal plans begin Saturday, August 24 at dinner. New First-year and new transfer student meals will be included during your new student orientation.
Students in need of an ADA adjustment should contact Student Accessibility Services at 315-792-7170.
You will receive an email from reslife@sunypoly.edu listing your room assignment the first week of August. This email will also include move-in information and roommate names.
Returning students may choose roommates when they fill out the housing application. However, first-year students do not have the option to choose roommates. We have found the best roommate assignments come from using the responses from the housing application, we do not allow new incoming first-year students to pick roommates. The responses about preferences allow matches that enable students to get the most from their experience while sharing similar living habits. Following your first year students can pick their roommates/suitemates and their specific rooms.
We have a comprehensive page to help you plan for your arrival based on each hall and room type. If something is not listed on the website and you have questions, let us know as we will be happy to assist you!
