CSTEP

Empowering STEM Students for Academic and Career Success

At SUNY Polytechnic Institute, we believe that every student deserves the opportunity to succeed in college and beyond, especially those pursuing careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and licensed professions. The Collegiate Science & Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) is designed to support economically disadvantaged and historically underrepresented students as they navigate their academic journey.

Whether you're exploring your future in healthcare, engineering, computer science, or law, CSTEP at SUNY Poly offers the resources, mentorship, and community you need to thrive.

Meet Andrew Cotronea, Associate Director for CSTEP
As a proud native of the Rome–Utica area, Andrew Cotronea is honored to support SUNY Poly students in his role as Associate Director for CSTEP. With a deep commitment to student success, Andrew works closely with faculty, staff, and community partners to create meaningful opportunities for students from historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged backgrounds helping to open doors to careers in STEM and the licensed professions.

Andrew’s passion for equity in education began during his time as an honors thesis fellow with the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Partnership (ISEP) in Buffalo Public Schools, where he focused on inclusive STEM education. Since then, he has continued to build a career rooted in mentorship and advocacy. Before joining SUNY Poly, Andrew served as the CSTEP Advisor at Mohawk Valley Community College, where he helped lead the development of a department-wide mission statement as part of the MSCHE accreditation process.

In 2016, Andrew and a team of colleagues were recognized as the Genesis Group’s Group Volunteers of the Year for their impact in the community. He holds a B.S. from the University at Buffalo and an M.B.A. from Canisius College.

Students working with Andrew quickly see his dedication, warmth, and drive to help them succeed, not just academically, but as future leaders in their fields.
