The DNP program is a FALL START ONLY.
ALL applicants must provide:
- evidence of an unencumbered license and current registration as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in New York State
- copies of all licenses and registrations (active, suspended, terminated or voluntarily made inactive) obtained for Registered Professional Nurse and any APRN specialty from any and all jurisdictions or states in which a license/registration is or has ever been held
There are three different pathways for admission. Select the '+' next to each pathway to view specific admissions requirements.
- Hold a baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing from an accredited nursing program with a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) from an accredited nursing program
- Have completed a statistics course with a grade of C or better.
- Provide evidence of completing the following course work: Child Abuse Identification, Infection Control.
- Have a minimum of one year of recent work experience and demonstrated commitment to the profession through leadership activity, participation in workplace governance, health related community service, certification or documented progress towards certification in the area of RN practice, active membership in professional organizations.
- Hold an MS, MSN degree in nursing and completed a graduate level clinical nursing APRN (Advanced Practice Registered Nurse) program such as a Nurse Practitioner in another specialty, a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nurse Midwifery or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist).
- A graduate GPA 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale from an accredited nursing program.
- Graduate level course work completed within three (3) years with a minimum grade of B will satisfy program requirements in Advanced Health Assessment, Pathophysiology and Pharmacology prior to matriculation in any Graduate Nursing Program
- Eligible for Transfer Credits: Full Master’s Degree in Nursing satisfies NUR 500, NUR 503, NUR 585, NUR 521, NUR 531, NUR 555, NUR 568, NUR 570, NUR 572. Evaluated for transfer credit: NUR 595.
- National certification in an NP or CNS specialty, or Nurse Midwifery or CRNA.
- Provide evidence of completing the non-credit course work in the following: Child Abuse Identification, Infection Control, and New York State Prescription Writing.
- Have a minimum of one year of recent work experience in the APRN role and demonstrated commitment to the profession through leadership activity, participation in workplace governance, health related community service and active membership in professional organizations.
- Hold an MS, MSN or MA degree and completed a graduate level non-clinical nursing program (Nurse Educator, Nursing Leadership or Nursing Administration).
- A graduate GPA 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale from an accredited nursing program.
- Eligible for Transfer Credits: Master’s degree for NUR 500, NUR 503, and NUR 585. Gap Analysis for NUR 531, NUR 572, and NUR 595.
- Gap Analysis for 3 Year requirement: NUR 521, NUR 555, NUR 568, and NUR 570.
- Provide evidence of completing the following non-credit course work in the following: Child Abuse Identification and Infection Control.
- Have a minimum of one year of recent work experience in thein the APRN role and demonstrated commitment to the profession through leadership activity, participation in workplace governance, health related community service and active membership in professional organizations.
Application Materials Checklist
To apply submit the following materials to the SUNY Polytechnic Institute Graduate Admissions Office, 100 Seymour Road, Utica, NY 13502:
- Online Application for Graduate Admission with a $60 application fee*
- Candidates who have earned a graduate degree or graduate certificate at SUNY Poly will fill out the Readmission Application to add a second degree with $30 fee.
- Official transcript(s) from colleges previously attended reflecting completion of a BS in nursing and/or an MS in nursing, and an undergraduate statistics course
- Three academic or professional recommendations (two are encouraged to be from nurse academicians): Share this link with your recommenders to be able to submit an electronic reference for you
- Writing Sample adhering to specific guidelines
- Resume (can be submitted via email to graduate@sunypoly.edu)
*The application fee is waived for military veterans, active-duty military, reserve and guard members, and their spouses and dependents; SUNY Poly alumni; and current matriculated students.
Complete applications will be reviewed, and an interview may be granted to determine admission to the program.
